Conclusion
In 50 years
the life of the hearing impaired has changed a lot.
Today they
are more and more integrated into society and participate more and more
actively in the development of GDP.
The
cochlear implant participated in this revolution by giving them access to the
sound world and better integration into society. Each year 30,000 implants are
implanted worldwide.
Other
solutions are under development but are only in the clinical trials stage. Many
hopes turn to gene therapy. But only the future generation will benefit….
Furthermore,
as life expectancy increases, the number of deaf and hard of hearing people is
increasing. We can consider that there are more than 6 million hearing impaired
people in France. There is therefore a very strong economic stake to find
solutions.
When
hearing loss is detected in young children who are not yet old enough to speak,
the cost is estimated to be approximately one million dollars, making this age
group the most expensive to the society. They are no longer a burden on
society.
